EPR Submission: Act Before the 1st April Deadline

If your business falls under the new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for packaging, you must complete your data submission. The deadline for reporting your packaging data depends on your company’s classification:

Large organisations must submit data covering July to December 2024 by 1 April 2025.

Small organisations must submit data covering January to December 2024 by 1 April 2025.

In addition, all obligated organisations, small and large, must also register with their environmental regulator by 1 April 2025. Guidance on how to register can be found on Gov.uk  and if necessary, follow the online instructions to access the new Report Packaging Data (RPD) service.

Failure to Report Could Lead to Enforcement Action

Failure to comply with these requirements may result in significant consequences, including:

  • Late submission fees, which increase with continued non-compliance.
  • Increased scrutiny and potential audits.
  • Enforcement action, including fines, from the environmental regulators.
  • Possible disruption to business operations due to non-compliance.
  • Negative brand perception as non-compliance is publicly available.

The EPR Scheme: A Regulatory Shift

The EPR scheme represents a significant shift in UK packaging waste management. By placing financial responsibility on producers, the Government aims to drive innovation in packaging design, promote recycled material usage, and reduce environmental impact. This initiative supports the transition to a circular economy.
